Each year, the Col. James Wood, II Chapter awards certificates to individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies who maintain a proper installation of a flag pole that displays our precious Stars and Stripes.
To be eligible for the award, the installation must meet a set criteria for appearance, maintenance and proper display of the American Flag.
Members of our Flag Award Committee periodically monitor the flag display location to determine the proper handling and display of the flag and lighting and maintenance of the installation. Installations that meet the committee criteria are awarded a Sons of the American Revolution flag certificate.
As part of our Flag Day activities, members of the committee will make a formal presentation of the certificate at the site of the installation to the representatives or owners. Many of these presentations garner media attention.
